They also use sticks found in nature to mark there trail boundaries. One way in which nordic practices safety is by providing maps so that no one gets lost. They also send someone from nordic to hike with groups just in case someone gets injuried. One way in which nordic provides service is by offering equipment and the outdoors to people so that people can participate in outdoor activities such as snowshoeing, cross country skiin, and many other. One way in which nordic benefits the customer is by providing them with fun and enjoyment. One way in which it benefits the employee if by offering them a job where they too can have fun. One way in which it benefits owner is by bringing in money to there resort. One way in which the ice haus practices sustainability is by using excess heat left over to heat pump house water. One way in which the ice haus practices safety is by allowing guest to rent helmets and padding. One way in which rentals provides safety is by setting the customer up with the proper gear and providing safety equipment. Jay Peak week 1

Week one at jay peak was pretty interesting. The first day we meet with Tom M and talked about what we would be doing for the following four weekends there. We also got a tour of the resort and then were sent on our way to snowboard. The saturday after, I began working in lift ops. I worked the RFID system all day and organized lift lines. It was interesting to see how RFID systems worked. There definitely so much faster then scanning tickets by hand. The hand held device showed things from season pass holders, to expired tickets. I was also able to connect with many of the guest. One way in which lift ops practices sustainability is that by using the RFID system. The cards that are used are reloadable and save on tickets. The ski resort also recycles old ski ticket passes. One way in which lift ops at jay practices safety is by the use of RFID systems as well. If someone is hurt or lost on the mountain the RFID tickets make it easy to track the person. The tickets are almost like gps's. One way in which lift ops practices service is by offering the customer shorter lift line because face it how really wants to wait in a lift line for any longer then 2 minutes. One way in which lift ops benefits the employee if by offer them a job. A second benefit for the employee is that they are able to enjoy the outdoors and meet many guests. One way in which lift ops benefits the customer is by giving them transport to the top or parts of the mountain. Like I said before the RFID's at some of the lifts also lower the lift lines. One way in which lift ops at jay benefits the owner is by brinnging in money to the resorts. When customers buy tickets or reload then RFId cards they are paying money, therefore the owner and the resort is making money. Plus by selling tickets the owner has the potential to attract more people to the resort and is sort of a marketing aspect.

Last day at bretton woods

My last day at bretton woods was pretty fun! I first started off the day by snowboarding till noon. The snow was very heavy, wet, and sticky but became better throughout the morning. After lunch we sat down with james noyes our advisor and talked about what we learned the last 4 weekends, and what we would have liked to do. I learned alot in each department and enjoyed my time at bretton woods. one thing i would have liked to do was to pick 2 department of my choice and work in each for 2 weekends. At the end of the day I went tubing. In the future i would enjoy working at bretton woods and hope that it does happen =]

Bretton woods week 4

During the fourth week at bretton i worked with ski patrol. I think this was by far my favorite department besides lift ops. I really enjoyed helping the guys set up for the big air competition I also enjoyed learning how they operated on a day to day basis. I learned alot through ski patrol. One way in which ski patrols relates to service is by helping the guests if there injuried, lost, need help down the slopes, and etc. One way in which they practice sustainability is by reusing old trail marker signs and practice a safe environment by properly disposing of band aids and other used medical equipment. One way in which ski patrol practices safety is by wearing germ free gloves if there is any blood incidents, and by making sure everyone is okay on the mountain. There day to day goal is safety. This also means closing of trails that might be dangerous that day. One way in which ski patrol benefits the customer, is by providing them aid if the get injured, lost, need help down the slope, and etc.... One way in which ski patrol benefits the employees, is by giving giving them time to enjoy the outdoors on top on work as well. they can ski while working. Although the pay is alittle less then most departments there still making money and are enjoying there jobs. One way in which the owner benefits from ski patrol, is by service. The owner is able to aquire ski reports for the day and can rely on ski patrol for injuries and cases where someone might be trying to sue the resort for an injury. Ski patrol benefits in many other ways as well.

Bretton woods week 3

Week three was awesome in hobbits. I gave some private and group lessons are learned how the devepartment operated on a day to day basis. In the morning we had to sign in children of all ages and set them up with gear if they didnt already have them. For those who did we just sent them in the back room to play until 10am. At about 9:30, we brought all the kids to the bathroom then dressed them up to play outside. This was pretty much the day until closing when we had to take down all of the race course toys from outside. Giving lessons was my favorite part of the day. One way in which hobbits support sustainability is by recycling the kids name tags and using eco-friendly paper plates for the kids lunches. One way in which they support service is by providing ski/boarding lessons and a safe place adults to drop of there kids. one way in which hobbits supports safety, is by providing the kids with soft cushion like toys for outside. Staff also always makes sure the kids are bundled up warm for the outdoors. One way in which hobbits benefits the customer is by giving them lessons to learn how to ski/ board and a place to keep parents kids safe. One way in which it benefits the employees is that it allows the employees to meet some really nice and unique people. It also there source of income and whats better then playing with kids all day. One way in which it benefits the owner is because it brings in alot of customers which is a huge income or profit, and helps to give bretton woods a good name because of the many resources it provides. all in all i really enjoyed working with hobbits and the kids. I meet a really nice employee with whom i worked with for 2 day (kasey).

Bretton woods week 2

This week started of on saturday instead of friday. Our friday class got cancelled due to a winter storm and ice. We lost a day because of this. However the following day i learned quite a bit about terrain parks. I started off by taking a tour in the groomer during operation. It was interesting to see how a groomer operated. The majority of the groomer was being operated with just two joysticks. Next I learned how to set up jumps and to make them look appealing to the customer. Bretton woods is one of the many that make the sides of their jumps nice and even. This also requires them to chop the sides down even. We also had to rake the surface of the ramp. I finished up the rest of the day by setting kids up in rock climbing gear so that they could climb on the new indoor climbing wall.  One way in which Terrain parks practice sustainability is by using scrap material to make there park features such as rails and boxes (recycling). The park also services the customers, because many like to ride the park. Those how are more experiences like more options. Bretton woods offers lots of terrain park options. The terrain park at bretton also relates to safety in many ways. The terrain park practices safety by inspecting all rails and boxes to make sure there are no sharp edges or ice. These are only a few safety precautions bretton woods follows. Brettons terrain park supports the customers by giving many options as of what to ride or jump for those experienced and non experienced skiers and boarders. It also supports the employee because it gives them something to work on and make money, plus they are allowed to ride the terrain park as well. It also supports the owner because It helps them make profit many experience riders will by tickets just to ride the terrain park. All in all, I enjoyed working in the terrain park department. I was quite an experience

Bretton woods week 1

Lets first start off by saying week one went extremely well. I was put into the lift off world which is actually a very important department . Not only do the employees work for park but they work together to make the guests experience safe and great. So to answer some of the questions that were given to us by our professioner i will take what i learned in week one at bretton woods. The first question is on sustainability. The ski lift world at bretton practices sustainability in a variety of ways. The most important way is by recycling and getting ride of waste (oil), that they use on there lifts in a proper and harmless way. This way no harmful chemicals are getting into our environment. Remember it is this environment that drives many ski resorts today. The ski lift world at bretton also relates to many service and safety practices. One way bretton deals with service is by offering there guest shorter wait lines. With their high speed quad detachables, they are able to send more people up the hill faster therefore reducing the lift line wait time. There ticket scanners also reduce the line wait time. They also practice safety by offering and making there guest use the safety bars on there ski lifts. The Lift attendances make sure that there guest use the saftey bars. Bretton woods lifts also contain many safety features on there ski lifts, such as brittles bars, proximity sensors and many other safety parts. The last 3 questions were to explain how our department supported or benefited, the guest, the employee, and the owner. One way in which bretton wood's ski lift world supports the guest is offering them transportation up the  mountain with 9 working lifts. The major of the lifts are high speed detachables, which are nicer because the carrying capactiy is greater. Bretton woods lifts are also a benefit to the employees because the wait line are shorter and customer complaints wont be so much of a problem. However these lifts may also be a hassle for lift attendances because there are more advanced and sometimes more complicating to use then simple fixed grips. The last question is how the lift world at bretton helps the management and owner. This question is very simple. My offering great services, guest are happy and will come back and spend more money to do it all over again. It is important for these lifts to be running and for friendly staff so that guest have the best possible time on the mountain. I mean think about it, it is these people that keep many resorts such as bretton open and operating. On the final note, I meet a ton of really nice professionals in the lift ops world at bretton. I was show how to operate the lifts as well as how they all functioned. I also learned how to maintance a nice loading and unloading ramp, so that injuries are less likely to happen due to ice. It is extremely important to always make the guest your number one priority, and to practice safety for the guest as well as all the employees operating the lifts. The department I will be working with next week is terrain parks which will be  very interesting.
